Details

The Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) is India's principal engineering entrance examination, introduced in 2012 to replace the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) since 2019, JEE Main is held twice yearly in January and April sessions to provide additional opportunities for candidates. The exam is gateway to admission in approximately 1,050 government colleges including National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), as well as numerous private engineering colleges across India. The examination consists of 300 marks (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics: 100 marks each) with the Paper 1 being computer-based test conducted in 13 languages. Approximately 15-16 lakh candidates appear for JEE Main annually, with selection rates varying across engineering colleges. The top 2.5 lakh scorers in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE-Advanced, the examination for IIT admission. JEE Main evaluates conceptual understanding, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities critical for engineering careers.
