Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS)

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is India's premier institution for rural secondary education, established on November 12, 1986 by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. NVS operates 661 Navodaya Vidyalayas spread across all states and union territories, serving approximately 11 lakh students. The schools are primarily residential, serving students from Classes VI-XII. The fundamental objective is to develop human resources of the country by providing a high quality, modern, Indian system of education to talented children from rural and less privileged backgrounds. Admission to Navodaya Vidyalayas at Class VI level is through the Navodaya Vidyalaya Entrance Examination (NVEE), which is merit-based. Students are selected from across diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The curriculum follows CBSE standards. Navodaya Vidyalayas are known for their residential setup which fosters community living, teamwork, and social integration among students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
