The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is India's civilian space agency and one of the world's leading space organizations. Established on August 15, 1969, under the Department of Space (now Ministry of Earth Sciences), ISRO operates multiple research centers across India including Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (Thiruvananthapuram), Satish Dhawan Space Centre (Sriharikota), Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (Bangalore), and others. ISRO has successfully developed and launched multiple satellite systems including the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) series for earth observation and the Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) for communications. The organization operates two primary launch vehicles: the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV).
