Details
Akshardham represents a remarkable fusion of ancient Indian architectural principles with contemporary engineering expertise. The main temple building took approximately 5,000 artisans and volunteers over 5 years to complete. The construction employed traditional stone carving techniques, with skilled artisans hand-carving over 11,000 pieces of marble, sandstone, and granite. The architectural design is based on Shilpa Shastras, the ancient Hindu texts on architecture, and incorporates various regional Indian architectural styles including Gujarati, Rajasthani, and South Indian influences. The main hall, known as the Garbhagriha, houses the principal deity Neelkanth Varni. The complex includes the Navrang Exhibition, which showcases Indian heritage through interactive displays, models, and multimedia presentations covering themes such as Indian mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and arts. The Sahaj Anand Water Show, featuring fountains and cultural narratives, and the Boat Ride through an exhibition depicting Indian history and culture add to the complex's attractions. The ornamental gardens are designed with traditional elements including lotus pools, marble pathways, and landscaping that reflects Hindu cosmological principles. The temple also houses a library, conference halls, and facilities for cultural performances and educational programs.
